Romio has record to maintain at Oamaru
Romio, an easy winner over hurdles at Oamaru last month, has made satisfactory progress in the meantime for his Riccarton trainer, Barry Taggart.
He went about his work with a will when paired with Rocky Peak for a gallop on the No. 7 grass at Riccarton yesterday, finishing 1200 m with a slight advantage to record Irnin 23.45ec. Romio will have a chance to extend his record as a jumper on the Oamaru course next week. Joint Effort ran his 1200 m on a yielding track in Imin 21.2 sec after cutting out the opening 600 in 39.45ec. Jolt, whose next appearance wilt be in the race for apprentice riders at Oamaru, had his race rider Brian Hibberd up when he ran 600 m yesterday in 41 sec. Nubilus, a recent addition to the Taggart team, recorded Imin 19.8 sec for 1200 m and 42 for the final 600.
Just a Song, which looks strong and bright after an autumn spell, was let off with pace work. He may resume at the Ashburton winter meeting. Tackle, which will race next at Oamaru. ran 600 m comfortably in 44sec. If she
gets good footing for one ofi her races between now and! August she might improve; her winning record for Mr and Mrs Jack Tutton before she is offered at auction atj the South Island sale. |
Nirwana, a winner for the Wingatui stable of A. E. and |L. Didham at the Hororata i meeting in March, will do I her future racing as a mem|ber of the Taggart team.
