22 object to electoral boundaries

Twenty-two objections have been filed against proposed changes to electoral boundaries in Canterbury. They are among the more than 160 objections received by the Electoral Commission by last evening, when objections closed, but a few more are expected by mail. Most of the local objections are to the suggested boundaries of the Lyttelton electorate (8) and the new Yaldhurst seat (7). Three objections are to the proposed Selwvn boundaries, two to Papanui’s, one to Christchurch Central’s, and one to Ashburton’s. Bv the time all objections have been received, about 180, or roughly double the number of the last three five-yearly boundary reviews, are expected to be considered by the commission. The commission will reconvene on March 1.
