Hurt man ‘started fight’

A 20-year-oid man is still in Christchurch Hospital Hospital after a fight in the Dog House food shop, Cathedral Square, late on Wednesday evening. The man needed five stitches for injuries suffered when he was kicked about the face and head by a youth. He was in a satisfactory condition last evening. It appeared that the injured man had started the incident. Superintendent J. A. Jamieson, of the Christchurch police, said yesterday. “Inquiries showed that he kicked another youth for no| apparent reason and was| then set upon by the other youth’s brother,” he said. He said that the three occupants of a police patrol car parked nearby had seen or heard nothing of the fight. “But they were on the job quickly after we got a telephone call, and all those involved in the incident were located within a few; minutes,” he said. He said that the police had: made no arrests so far. It had not yet been decided; whether charges would be i laid.
