Bankrupt ill

A 35-year-old bankrupt failed to appear at a meeting of creditors in Christchurch on Tuesday because of illness and the hearing was adjourned sine die by the Deputy Official Assignee (Mr L. Anderson). Formerly self-employed as a bread vendor, the bankrupt, Evan Ronald Woods, gave the cause of his present financial state as the erosion of profit margins from increased prices of bread and petrol and other expenses, and his illness and the necessity of employing relief drivers. Woods had 11 unsecured creditors, and one hirepurchase commitment, making debts of $3768.67, assets of s2t:s, and a deficiency of $3563.67. Woods, pays $3O a week for rented accommodation and is in receipt of a $40.80 sickness benefit. His de facto wife is employed. He was previously adjudged a bankrupt on September 20, 1971, and received an unconditional discharge on May 26, 1972.
