Driver of car pleads guilty
The driver of a car in which a passenger died after the car hit two power poles pleaded guilty to a charge of carelessly using a car causing the death of Maurice Edwin Mauger, in the Magistrates Court yesterday. Rex Wayne Ash, aged 23, a tannery worker, was remanded to August 4 for a probation report and sentence by Mr B. A. Palmer, S.M. He was ordered to be medically examined. Sergeant R. H. Fronting told the court that Ash’s car was seen being driven in Ferry Road at 3.30 a.m. on December 27, 1975. The car hit two power poles and a taxi-driver saw Ash walk from the car and collapse on the footpath. The taxi-driver saw the body of a man in the front seat. The man was taken to hospital but was dead on arrival.
