Drivers offer services
The response to an appeal by the Canterbury' Aged People's Welfare Council for more drivers for the mini-bus used to take elderly Christchurch citizens on day’ trips had been excellent, the secretary of the council (Mr G. A. Mole) said yesterday. Among the 25 replying to the appeal were retired taxidrivers. housewives, and a lorry driver. Mr Mole said one or two people had also offered to provide afternoon tea for the elderly citizens. Each of the applicants will be given an opportunity to drive the mini-bus. Mr Mole said it was hoped to take all of them eventually if the[ council purchased another bus. He -aid that with the extra drivers more outings might be possible. The council ha- 15 voluntary drivers at present and thev are called on to drive at least once a fortnight. Mr Mole had said the council was considering purchasing another bus, but this would depend on the proceeds from . .the recent Garden City Golf] | Classic. I
