New principal for college
The Anglican vicar of Mangakino, the Rev. Te vVaaka Melbourne, has been appointed principal if Te Wai Pounamu Maori (Jiris' College. Mr Melbourne studied at St John’s College. Auckland, and after ordination served in several North Island parishes. He has served on a number of diocesan committees, among them Christian education. Maori work. the National Council of Churches, youth council, and on the advisory board to the Bishop of Aotearoa. He has been a part-time teacher of Maori studies at Mangakino High School, and has taken extra-mural courses for adults at the University of Waikato. He is a member of the Jay-
cees, and a chaplain in the Territorial Army. Mr Melbourne is married, with three sons and a daughter. He will take up residence at the college at the end of the month. He succeeds the Rev. Hui Vercoe. the first Maori priest to be principal of the college.
