Liner for cruises

The Shaw, Savill, and Albion Line is back in the cruising business, according to the Christchurch branch manager of White Heron Travel, Ltd (Mr R. H. Graham). Shaw Savill has chartered the Russian liner Feodor Shalya-pin (21,405 tons gross) for 18 Pacific cruises out of Auckland, starting on December 19.

The Feodor Shalyapin is the former Cunard liner Franconia, and will carry 802 passengers, with a crew of 410.

Many Lyttelton shipping men feel that more effort should be made to bring tourists direct to the South Island. The cruise liner Monterey, on her present voyage, has made Lyttelton, Dunedin, and Milford Sound a major part of the itinerary, with only one North Island port of call, Wellington.
