Not all paid after storm
The Earthquake and War Damage Commission has urged unpaid claimants for damage by the August 1 storm to inform the mission. The secretary of the commission (Mr J. L. Gill) said in Wellington that it was quite possible that some
claimants had yet to be paid for damage to their properties.
The commission paid out on property covered by fire insurance only when it was damaged by other natural causes.
Mr Gill said the likely reason for unsettled claims was that the commission had not been fully informed of the details of insurance.
Although no tally of claims had yet been made, he estimated that the total pay-out would be about s4m.
