Airmen earlier to rise
Airmen at the Royal New Zealand Air Force base at Wigram will, from today, begin their working day 30 minutes earlier than they did last week—so that, with the hour of daylight saving, they will have 90 minutes more daylight leisure time after work.
According to the Wigram base adjutant (Squadron Leader B. Anderson) the earlier start is a trial until Christmas. If it proves successful then it will remain
I until the end of daylight saving next year. By giving the base staff the ; opportunity of going home 'half an hour earlier than i usual, that is at 4.30 p.m., their leisure time would bene|fit, he said. I If the trial period does not I prove popular Wigram’s service population will go back jto the normal 8 a.m. starting (time. I The one consideration which had to be given to the idea of an earlier working Iday, said Squadron Leader
- Anderson, was what effect it would have on staff on night ; flying duties. From knocking e off at 4.30 p.m. they would i have something of a wait , -until 9 p.m. when night fly- - ing normally begins. Now it seems that resit dents adjacent to the Wigram - airfield will have more peace- : ful nights as night flying ; using Harvards will practically come to an end. The 1 only flying at night which ; will continue regularly will ; be by Devon crews on navigation training.
