Exhausted man stuck on Ruapehu
(N.Z. Press Association)
NEW PLYMOUTH, Oct. 27. A Turangi man was resting comfortably at his home tonight after collapsing near the summit of Mount Ruapehu during the week-end and being forced to spend the night in the crater of the mountain. Mr Lawrence Edwards was climbing towards the summit on Saturday afternoon with his wife and son when he collapsed from exposure and exhaustion.
His wife telephoned the ski patrol from a nearbv glacier shelter, but the patrol was| unable to reach the party! that night. With assistance from other climbers. Mrs Edwards helped her husband to a 'shelter where they all spent Saturday night.
Despite appalling weather on Sundav morning, teams from the ski patrol and Ruapehu Alpine Lifts, Ltd, made the climb to the crater shelter.
They brought Mr Edwards to safety on a snow sledge.
