Generator on gas

(N.Z. Press Association; NEW PLYMOUTH, Oct. 3. The first of the New Plymouth power station’s generators has been successfully run to full load on Kapuni natural gas, but not without problems. Gas was used to produce 125 megawatts of electricity from the No. 3 turbo alternator yesterday.

“This is a much better result than we expected. We thought we would reach 95 per cent efficiency but not 100 per cent,” said the Electricity Department’s project engineer, Mr J. M. Dykes, today.
