Political questions and Answers
Sir, — Obviously S. Maxwell does not know the conditions of the Womens Electoral Lobby’s questionnaire. I doubt if the writer would be willing to answer such controversial questions “yes” or “no”' without being allowed to clarify the answer. With relevant data, which is what is expected of member of Parliament and candidates. Mr Muldoon has left the decision to individuals, but is to be admired for his concern. Colleen Dewe, Lyttelton’s National Party candidate, and many others, have answered; but surely a written questionnaire with written answers would be fairer. Even a Labour Party candidate recently said in “The Press” that he objected to the attitude of W.E.L. Members of the National Party, who believe strongly in the freedom of the individual, are quite prepared to state publicly their personal views on any subject. But I object to anyone being put under this sort of pressure. — Yours, etc., JEANNETTE MILLER. September 30, 1975. [This correspondence is now closed.—Editor.]
