Tunnel revenue falls

Commercial traffic through the Lyttelton Road Tunnel decreased 34.5 per cent during August compared with August last year. However car traffic increased by 5.1 per cent, giving an over-all traffic increase of 0.9 per cent. Total toll revenue for the first five months of this financial year was down $26,741 from the corresponding period last vear. to; $214,912. Goods tolls fell by $13,093 and commercial tolls by; $12,953. Buses no longer pay tolls, which accounted for $4612 of the decrease. Total toll revenue for August fell at a rate of $2lB a day, compared with $B7 a day for August last year. Tonnage of goods through the tunnel was 290,550 for the first five months, compared with 384,071 tonnes last vear.
