Moa bones found
(N.Z. Prest Association) AUCKLAND.
A Taupo farmer bulldozing a track through his property dug up the leg bones of a moa.
A preliminary archaeological check suggested they might be 1000 years old, and belonged to one of the biggest moa species in the North Island.
One theory is that the big bird got trapped upright in a Tomo, or volcanic sink-hole, while walking down to water.
