Miller wins by 14 strokes

Johnny Miller set a Professional Golfers Association tour record by winning the SUSISO,OOO Phoenix Open by 14 strokes. He posted a seven-under-par 64 in the final round for a tournament total of 24-under-par 260. Jerry Heard came from back in the pack with a six-under-par 65, getting a birdie at the seventeenth and an eagle at the eighteenth, to finish second with 10-under-par 274. Miller's margin broke the old mark set by Arnold Palmer when he won the 1962 Phoenix Open by 12 shots. Miller’s total of 260 also sets a tournament record and is the lowest 72-hole total score on the tour since the 257 by Mike Souchak in the 1955 Texas Open. Miller, who also won the Phoenix Open last year, clinched first place with seven birdies. His winning margin of 14 strokes was the largest ever in thi tournament.
