Drinking drivers

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON.

Alcohol was a contributing factor in a quarter of the 29 Christmas-New Year road fatalities, said the Minister of Transport (Sir Basil Arthur). He urged all road users to see the repeat screening of the film "479” on television at 10 p.m. on Sunday. The film tells of the effect on one family of a drinking driver.

"Over the Christmas-New Year period 29 people were killed in road accidents. In a quarter of these, alcohol can be positively identified as a contributing factor. Undoubtedly some of the others also involved alcohol,’’ he said. |
