America’s Cup bid

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) BRIDGEPORT (Connecticut). England has launched a 1977 challenge for the America’s Cup yachting trophy.

Mr H. Anderson, rearcommodore of the New York Yacht Club, made the announcement at a Yacht Racing Association of Long Island Sound awards dinner in the Black Rock Yacht Club.

John M. Livingston, an Australian now living in Cowes, England, has challenged for the America’s Cup on behalf of the Corinthian Yacht Club, of England.

Mr Anderson said that the New York Yacht Club also expects 1977 challenges from Baron M. Bich (France), and from Australia. The time limit for challenges is the middle of November.

Livingston’s challenge is expected to be with a new aluminium 12-metre yacht which he said was half built in the Camper and Nicholson yard in England.
