Reserves

Sir,—The Government’s present policy of designating certain lands as reserves is to be commended. One important factor the Government has overlooked is the important one of advising present landowners of their intentions. After months of rumour that some land around the coastline of Canterbury is to be designated as a reserve, the local county coun;cil published a notice to this (effect. No official notification iof the intentions of the Government has as yet been received by the landowners. Farmers and landowners in areas which are desirable as recreational reserves would be wise to check with their county councils to ensure the Government has no plans to (designate certain of their ; lands as reserves with the re- : suiting influx of people and i disruption to farm management, for which they are un--1 prepared.—Yours, etc., CONCERNED. , July 6, 1974.
