Harper Avenue

Sir,—Your correspondent, “Quince,” has brought up a most important matter. However, there is another important point which requires urgent attention in regard to the bend in Harper Avenue. I refer to the extreme danger to motorists because of the narrowing of the roadway where those of us who travel daily to the city are jammed into a narrow two-way track after leaving the excellent two-way avenue completed by the previous council. As the present council has destroyed the half-completed road through the park it appears that urgent steps should be taken towards an alternative. It is appreciated that the council’s “mandate” may not permit this without some amending legislation but in the meantime the wheels of the north-west commuters are slowly but surely eating into North Hagley park and creating the sea of mud and filth referred to by “Quince.” — Yours, etc., NORTH-WEST.
