Name change rejected

Boards with the responsibility of destroying rabbits will continue to be known as pest-destruction boards. The annual conference of the South Island Pest Destruction Boards’ Association rejected a proposal yesterday to change the name of pest destruction boards to pastoral protection boards. Delegates said a change of name would help solve the confusion in the minds of the public between pest destruction boards and professional pest eradicators (firms concerned with eliminating borer). However, the remit was rejected because delegates felt the change of name would reduce the boards’ emphasis on destroying rabbits.
