Boys’ Brigade band prizes

Corporal Gavin Henson, aged 16, won the title of “Silver Bugler” and LanceCorporal Michael Horne, aged 15, the “Silver Drummer” award when the Canterbury Battalion of the Boys’ Brigade held its drumming and bugling competitions in the Colombo Street Baptist Church youth hall. Both boys are from the Beckenham Ist Christchurch Company. They will become the leading bugler and drummer respectively at battalion ceremonial occasions and public displays until the end of June next year. Results were:— Bugling.—Corporal G. Henson (Ist Christchurch Company) 1, Private S. Furdon (Bth Christchurch) 2, Private P. Fenton (Ist Christchurch) 3. Drumming.—Lance-Corporal M. Horne (Ist Christchurch Company) 1, Lance-Corporal E. Faletoese (6th Christchurch) 2, Private W. Salisbury (6th Christchurch) 3.
