Airport prices

Sir, —As a frequent user of the airport at Harewood, I have been convinced for some time that prices are too high for some of the services rendered (or not rendered). On May 8 at 9.30 p.m. I was meeting a delayed flight from Dunedin. There were other flights at the same time and people were in the terminal. However, the coffee and snack

bar - was closed. On inquiring it was learnt that it must stay open for 30 minutes after the last flight. The prices always appear to be exorbitant, the courtesy nonexistent and now the sendee is getting poor. How long does the public have to put up with conditions like these? The only favourable comment I can make is that the bar was open for the benefit of the public — even though their prices are exorbitant.—Yours, etc., L. G. May 11, 1974. [Mr A. I. R. Jamieson, general manager of the Christchurch Airport Authority, replies: “Constructive criticism is always welcome. Normally the coffee and snack bars close after the last departure for the day though this can vary with circumstances. Food and liquor prices are approved by the authority.”]
