Bus driving

Sir, —On May 3, at 7.58a.m. while travelling east along Pages Road to my job I experienced an upsetting incident involving a Christchurch Transport Board bus (No. 410). The bus contained no passengers. My vehicle was travelling at 30 m.p.h. and the bus followed me for about a quarter of a mile, no more than 12ft behind. As we approached the Cowles Stadium corner this bus proceeded to overtake me, as it did, without indication. It then continued along Pages Road at about 35 m.p.h. until it reached Rowan Avenue, whereupon it turned .left and stopped across the Rowan Avenue intersection preparing to U turn. This whole manoeuvre was undertaken without any indications or warnings whatsoever. A passenger was present with me at the time.—Yours etc., BRIAN W. PRIDDY.

May 8, 1974. [Mr M. G. Taylor, general manager of the Christchurch Transport Board, replies: “Had your correspondent written directly to me, an investigation of his allegations could have been made. However, because he chose not to do so, his complaint has been received outside the 72 hours period stipulated (in the award under which the board’s drivers are employed) making it impossible for any action to be taken.”]
