Convention of priests

The National Association of Priests will hold its fourth annual convention in Christchurch from today to May 15 to discuss the theme: “The Church — mission or maintenance.”

•The group believes it should have much to say on the issues Christians face, and that the collective voice of priests can provide leadership on these issues. The convention will seek answers to questions which include the possible community nature of parish life, and the effectual working of present parish structures. Evening sessions will deal with remits from the various regions. The aims of the association have been defined as continual review of the priestly ministry, undertaking clear leadership on matters of importance, and providing friendship and mutual support for priests in local areas.
