Week-end thefts
Detectives are investigating the theft of property worth more than $6OOO reported during the week-end. About three tons of gun metal ingots, valued at more than $3OOO were stolen from the Canterbury Engineering Companv, Ltd, Hands Road. A padlock on the front gate and a window were forced to gain entry, and there W'ere signs that a heavy truck was used to carry away the ingots.
A motor, pump and control gear for a sprinkling system, worth about $3OOO, were stolen from the Ferrymead Historic Park.
The gear had been kept in a special pit under 4ft of water and had been cut away with acetylene torches when found yesterday. About $lOO worth of confectionary and money was stolen from Hume Industries, Ltd, Carmen Road, on Sunday night.
