S.I. Territorials to train in Fiji
About 120 South Island Territorial Force soldiers will do a spell of basic tropical infantry training in Fiji next month.
Men of the 2nd Battalion, Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment will leave Christ-
church by R.N.Z.A.F. Hercules on May 13 and return on May 20. They will do five days of basic training.
i and one day has been allowed Tor shopping. Major J. R. M. Barker, of the 3rd Infantry Brigade Group headquarters, will be in charge of the contingent. To qualify for the overseas exercise each soldier picked had to have completed a minimum of one year’s efficient service, with preference going to those who had attended annual camp. Those selected were also men who had not previously been on an overseas exercise.
The 120 men will be only the second group of Territorial Force volunteers to go overseas for training.
wafer polo.—The New Zealand water polo team, which is in training for a six-week tour of Europe in July and August, will assemble in Wellington this week for a special coaching clinic at the Freyberg pool from Thursday to Sunday.
