Strikemasters at Wigram
Six Strikemaster jet trainers and two Harvard for-j ward control aircraft of No.! 14 Squadron, based at Ohakea. will be at the Royal New Zealand Air Force base at Wigram for a week from today. The eight aircraft will fly in support of the No. 3 Infantry Brigade Group at its annual training camp 20 miles west of Hanmer Springs, in North Canterbury. The Strikemasters will make close air support sorties as requested by ground troops. An R.N.Z.A.F. liaison team will live with the Army in its tented camp for the week.
Skyhawk fighter-bombers from No. 75 Squadron, at Ohakea, will act as the “enemy” strike force. They will carry out long-range air strikes from Ohakea. No. 14 Squadron’s detachment will be under the command of Squadron Leader R. F. Lawry. of Blenheim. It will return to its home base next Saturday.
