Stockpiling of bottles

A Canterbury soft-drink manufacturer will stockpile new bottles for the next few months to avoid a shortage next summer.

A shortage in bottles in reicent months had forced a number of firms to reduce temporarily the range of flavours, said Mr J. Gowland, the manager of Maunders Cordials, Ltd, of Rangiora.

There had been no noticeable panic buying of soft drinks or cordials because of the sugar shortage, and careful planning was overcoming problems, he saidHowever, diesel oil was on allocation, and more fuel was needed for the bottle-washing plant.
