Portisch. Portisch used the English opening and Petrosian adopted .the Sicilian delence. The draw was agreed on the twenty-ninth move after four hours of play. V. Korchnoi (Russia), needing onlv one more win to defeat H. Mecking (Brazil) in his quarterfinal in Augusta, Georgia, re’fused to allow a draw m the longest game of the nine played. Korchnoi -ealed his eightv-ninth move and the game was adjourned. The Russian has won two games and Mecking none. Winners of the quarter-final matches will play each other later this 'ear for the opportunity to challenge the world champion, R. J. Fischer in 1975.
