ROWING EIGHT ON TV AGAIN

i.V.Z. Press Association, AUCKLAND. The New’ Zealand gold medal winning rowing eight from the Munich Olympics will be the subject of a television programme for West German viewers. Later this month, the New Zealand Amateur Rowing Association will reassemble the eight for a demonstration row at the national championships on Lake Karapiro, for the benefit of West German television cameras. A five-man television crew from Zweites Deutsches Fernsehen (West Germany’s second channel) has been in Australia and New Zealand for the last few weeks. In 1971-72, New Zealand oarsmen made a big reputation at European regattas. With the 1978 world championships to be rowed at Karapiro there is a renewed interest in the oarsmen.

Mr G. Kraemar, who heads the television team, discussed aspects of the film with the rowing association president (Mr D. Rowlands) on Monday. He spent yesterday with the Auckland president (Mr C. Hilliard) discussing tentative plans tor the world championships. "We want to produce a 20 to 30-minute film on New Zealand with rowing the central theme," said Mr Kraemar. “The film will be of great benefit in advertising New Zealand in Europe,” said Mr Hilliard. “It will he , seen by an estimated 60 million people.”
