PROTEST IN SQUARE

Ten people carrying crudely lettered placards (“Resist racist sport blackmail,” and “Go home Ordia”) early last evening picketed the United Service Hotel in Cathedral Square where the secretary-general of the Supreme Council for Sport in Africa (Mr Abraham Ordia) is staying.

One policeman for each demonstrator, a seniorsergeant and nine constables, kept watch on the protesters and about 20 onlookers they attracted. The demonstration was organised by the South African Friends Association and the Association for the Defence of South African Tours who, the police said, had a permit to protest between 5.30 p.m. and 7.30 p.m.
