MAGISTRATE’S COURT 70 youths remanded until February 11

Seventy youths were remanded on bail until February 11 when they appeared before Mr E. S. J. Crutchley, S.M., in the down-| stairs briefing hall at the' Christchurch Central Police \ Station yesterday. The defendants had been j remanded in custody on Mon-| day on charges of being in an unlawful assembly at Kerrs) Road on December 30. No; pleas were entered. Inspector A. W. N. Lawrence, who appeared for the police, said that there would be no objection to bail providing there was a $5OO selfsurety and daily reporting. Each of the following was remanded on bail on those terms to February 11: Christchurch: Geoffrey Donald Aitken, Howard Alder Common (Mr M. J. Glue), Raymond Lloyd Cullen, Samuel James Cullen, Anthony Charles Eastmond, Stephen William Alexander Hollis, Terrence John Lainchbury. John Ross Hopkins, Douglas Norman Johnson, Anthony Paul Moody, Jeffrey Swann O’Leary, John Malcolm Overton, Stephen Noel Riley (Mr K. N. Hampton), David Alexander Thomson (Mr D. M. Palmer), Robert John Van Dalen, Kevin James Williams, Allan William Clark (formerly of Dunedin) and Graeme George Spence (formerly of Dunedin). Aitken, aged 20 a builder’s labourer, was also charged with assault with intent to injure. No plea was entered. Eastmond was also charged with dangerous diving.
