MOTOR-CYCLISTS GO SOUTH
A strong contingent of Canterbury riders will be chasing the honours at the Southland Motor Cycle Club’s Cold Star motocross tomorrow.
Confirmed entries include G. Sword (125 Suzuki), whose spectacular riding at previous Gold Star meetings is stil remembered in the south; B Roberts (400 Husqvarna); R S. Loudon (360 Greeves); anc P. Doecke. Other talented Canterbury riders are expected to put ir an appearance at the meeting to be held at the club’s new permanent track at the Cret speedrome, which was opener on November 25. Riders . at the inaugura meeting voted the track i great success, while specta tors were able to follow the action easily, because the
j competitors are in sight ail (the time. For the Gold Star, races will be divided into three classes — 125 c.c., 126-250 c.c., and 251-500 c.c. — with three heats in each. Championship points will be allocated for each heat, while prize money will be calculated from the points gained over the three heats in each of the classes. A number of the Southland riders who will be taking part have competed in Canterbury events this season, among them A. Crosbie (250 Honda), W. Hill (250 Yamaha), W, Meredith (250 Yamaha), G. Udy (125 Suzuki) and P. Walton (250 Suzuki). With its own clubhouse and the new motocross track on the same ground, the Southland Motor Cycle Club has high-class facilities on what was once a stretch of i lupin-covered wasteland five Imiles from the centre of ilnvercargill.
