Grand final incident
The last echoes of the 1973. Inter-Dominion Championship! aeries at Harold Park have at last died away. The stewards recently concluded their inquiry into an accident which occurred inside the last two furlongs of the Grand Final. The evidence showed, says the! official report, that when Robalan iD. D. Nyhan! became cramped for room between Glamo ir | Chief <R. Robinson* and Reich-! man iR. Hocking) his front foot; struck and badly damaged a wheel of Reichman’s sulky. As a result Robalan galloped and lost considerable ground and the chances of Rcichman were seriously affected The official film showed clearly | that Robalan had been cramped by Glamour Chief moving out from the rails and Reichman* moving in slightly as he was about to clear Robalan. Although ! the cumulative effect of these ; two Incidents resulted in signi ! ficant interference, the stewards considered that if each had ' occurred separately. neither I would have constituted a breach sufficient to merit suspension. In I fhe circumstances both Hocking < and Robinson were severely re-1' primanded. says the report. h
