TROTTING New registration scheme planned
A new system of registering horses is being investigated by the Trotting Conference in an attempt to reduce the number of forms which have to be completed between the notification of the foaling of a horse and the start of its racing or breeding career.
To this end, a type of registration certificate is being considered. On this all of the various transactions, at present requiring a separate form, will be recorded. As well as making it easier for owners, it is expected that the new scheme will streamline work in the conference offices. The scheme follows a suggestion made by the president
of the Auckland Trotting Club (Mr M. M. W. Corner),- | who said he thought thej : present system was too • cumbersome. A new form is being designed which will act as a combined application fori ;notifying the birth of a foal; and an application to register a horse for racing or breeding purposes. This would include the re-; quest for a name and description of the horse, in- ■ ; eluding its freeze brand. At present foaling returns; have to be made by February: 28 each year, but it is pro-; posed that this date be • extended to May 1 to enable, notification of the freeze i brand to be made at the same, i time. ; Under the new scheme, a | horse will have to be branded; ; six weeks before May 1 so; that the brand will be legible, ) Once this document has'
been processed, a certificate will be issued to the owner i [of the horse to be produced on demand. If the horse is 1 sold it will only be necessary, for the vendor and the; purchaser to affix their! signatures on the reverse side of the certificate. A saving will result from the fact that it is proposed that a single fee covering! notification of the foaling return, admission to the Stud Book, freeze branding, and naming will be payable. The proposed system. : which will be considered by ' the executive at a meeting ' in Christchurch next Friday, I will remove the need for the | secretary of a club or his . agent to inspect a horse be- ■ fore it is named. Also, there would be no ■ breeding from unregistered i mares, which frequently ! causes complications at preI sent.
