ACQUISITION DECISION

Wool body “not consulted”

Z. Frees Association) WANGANUI, Jan. 18. The electoral college of the Meat and Wool Boards was not consulted before the Government made its recent decision to go ahead with total acquisition of the wool clip, the chairman of the electoral college (Mr B. Drvden) said ; in an interview tonight.

Mr Dryden said that in August, the college endorsed a marketing plan, including acquisition. But the then National Government decided against the proposal, pending a referendum of woolgrowers.

“The Labour Government and the Wool Board made their latest decision to authorise total acquisition without consulting the electoral college,” Mr Dryden said.

The Government and Wool I Board took the view that beI cause the college had already [endorsed acquisition, further ■ consultation was unnecessary.
