Bus chassis prototype
'.V Z Press Association) AUCKLAND, January 18. The prototype of the chassis for Auckland’s future Mercedes Benz bus fleet is due to arrive in Auckland early in March. It is being assembled in Western Germany to act as a guide for the New Zealand contractors for the 150-bus order.
The Auckland Regional Authority director of operations (Mr B. M. Stanton) said today that the chassis would be studied by the authority and the Mercedes agent. Cable Price Downer. Ltd, which would put together the other 149 buses at Rotorua.
The chassis would then go co the body-building contractor, New Zealand Motor Bodies, Ltd. for the first body under the agreement.
The company’s managingdirector (Mr J. A. Waddell) said the first body would he built in Wellington, and the rest in Auckland.
The first production-model buses would be ready in November.
