RICH PRIZE
The King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes will be run at Ascot next July for a stake of £lOO,OOO. This will be the richest race run in Britain. The goal of a six-figure prize for this prestige weight-for-age race, for three-year-olds and upwards, was reached as a result of the sponsors, De Beers, raising their contribution by £9OOO to £44,000, the Ascot Authority raising its contribution by the same amount to £29,000, and the Levy Board increasing its contribution by £7OOO to £27,000.
