Reprieve for tree

(N Z Press Association)

AUCKLAND, Oct 30.

A 60-year-old camphorwood tree stood on the site selected for the new buildings in Mount Eden of the Disabled Rehabilitation League, and it still stands there today, with the buildings placed carefully beside it

Opening the new buildings the Prime Minister (Mr Marshall) praised the foresight which allowed both the graceful old tree and the modern buildings to share the site.

“We are really getting our values right when we can alter a building site to preserve a tree,” he said.
