COMPLAINTS MADE
Poultry-farm manure
“We’ve got to make an example of these people,” said the chairman (Cr A. Y. Shuker) at a meeting of the rural districts council of the Paparua County Council yesterday, when he referred to nuisance arising from the spreading of poultry manure.
Cr Shuker said he had been called out on Saturday to investigate complaints. Three poultry sheds had just been emptied and manure dust was blowing over neighbours’ land. There had been trouble with this generally for the last three years. The health inspector (Mr G. W. L. Fairhall) said the circumstances had been unfortunate because of a genuine misunderstanding. The manure had been distributed by a lime-spreader instead of a truck, and the work , had been stopped as soon as it was realised what had happened. Cr Shuker said he suggested that Cr Fairhall had been told a pack of lies. He had watched the manure spreading for 10 minutes. He asked Mr Fairhall to recommend suitable action for the county council to take.
