Wharves “private”

The former Marine Department recently visited wharves round Akaroa Harbour in the Akaroa County Council—but then found out that they were built and paid for by residents. The vesting of the Akaroa, Wainui, Robinsons Bay, Duvauchelle and Takamatua wharves was therefore revoked, the department told the council by letter received at its meeting. The County Clerk (Mr J. M. Rudhall) said that the unvesting meant that the council was back to where it was, with control over the private wharves by by-laws.
