The appointee wiU be required to take up duty as soon as possible. Candidates should have a thorough mastery of Thai in its various projections and experience of teaching Thai as a foreign language. It is expected that the appointee will have some knowledge of appUed linguistics and a sensitivity to the kinds of cross-cultural problems involved in the teaching of Thai to English speaking students. Preference wiU be given to a candidate with a training in the study of Thai Uterature. Knowledge of other languages of the Burmo-Thai famUy is an advantage. Salary on appointment will be in accordance with quaUfications and experience within the range: $A6804 x $A369—5A9387 per annum. The appointee will be required to take up duty as soon as possible in 1973. The person appointed will be required to make a substantial contribution to the teaching of Microbiology in the Faculty of Science. He should have a strong and continuing interest in general Microbiology, and should have an appropriate specialised interest. Preference may be given to a specialist in fields such as bacterial nutrition, metabolism. adaptation or genetics.

Salary on appointment will be in accordance with qualifications and experience within the range $A9619 x $A323-$A11.234 per annum. In particular, he will be expected to organise and control the office and administrative and secretarial staff of the school, to attend faculty and other meetings, to keep appropriate records and to deal with matters which may be delegated to him from time to time by the academic, financial and building development sections of the central administration. Candidates should be thoroughly experienced in general administration work and be accustomed to dealing with professional people. Preferably they should be university graduates. Experience in administration in a university and/or a medical field would be an advantage. Commencing salary will be determined in accordance with qualifications and experience within the scale for assistant registrars $6750-$B5lO per annum. The successful applicant will be required to take up duties at the earliest possible date.

THE AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL UNIVERSITY CHAIR OF ADMINISTRATIVE STUDIES APPLICATIONS are invited for appointment to the foundation Chair of Administrative Studies in the Faculty of Economics of the University. It is hoped that the appointee can take in duty early in 1973. The Professor will be expected to plan and implement a course of study leading to a new master’s degree in Administrative Studies. The proposed degree, which is intended to give graduate instruction in management at an advanced level, will be oriented towards the needs of both the public and private sectors but will have special reference to the former. The University expects that the course of study for the degree will be concerned with a wide range of quantitative and behavioural academic disciplines and their application to government and business; the emphasis will be on the processes of decision-making and the use of economic analysis. The salary for the post is $A15,369 per annum. The University provides reasonable travel and removal expenses and assistance with housing.
