Town Hall grant
In addition to its original grant of $3OO to the cost of the Christchurch Town Hall, the Waipara County Council has given another $3OO. The council agreed to this after considering a letter from the Christchurch City Council asking for another contribution towards the “ever-pres-sing need for more finance to meet the cost of special lighting and sound equipment and stage fittings etc., not covered in the contract.” Skyjack A rear wheel came off a car being driven by a woman [past the Christchurch Hos(pital yesterday morning. Unexpected but welcome help [came from the grey sky i above. Men building the I nine - story medical centre lat the hospital instructed the operator of one of the cranes to swing the boom over Hagley Avenue, lower the hook, and raise the car while they refitted the wheel. The operator, unable to see the vehicle from his lofty cabin, followed instructions by radio. The repairs were done in a few minutes, and the grateful driver departed.
