Composing award

An award for young composers, open to students of both tertiary and secondary institutions, is to be sponsored by the Christchurch Society for Contemporary Music.

The Australasian Performing Right Association will give $6O as prize money, and the N.Z.B.C. will consider 'broadcasting the award-win-ning works. | The composition may be of iany length for a chamber I group of no more than five .performers. Vocal, instrumental, and electronic compositions are eligible. For the latter category contestants must supply a tape. The Contemporary’ Music Society will arrange for the performance of these works, provided they are within realistic limits of performing difficulty and choice of medium. Entries will close on October 6. Further information and entry forms may be obtained from the society’s president, Mr I. Dands, of the music department of the Christchurch Teachers’ College.

The contest will be restricted to students studying or living in Canterbury. i
