N.Z. team wins polo

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) SALISBURY.

A touring New Zealand polo team today beat Rhodesia, 10-9, in an international match at the Salisbury Sports Club. J. Walker, the 22-year-old farmer from South Auckland, thrilled the crowd of nearly 7000 with some superb horsemanship in scoring five goals and upsetting the Rhodesian attack with his brilliant riding-off tactics. Rhodesia was in front of the New Zealand post for long spells in every chukka, dominating mid-field play, but could not finish the attacks. The poor shooting was in many cases, forced on them by the constant pressure put on them by Walker. In defence the Rhodesians always ended up in a shambles. From being on the attack, they were repeadedly forced back to their last line. New Zealand fully deserved its victory and played good, all-round polo, always making sure of shots. J. Barrett had two thrilling runs from well inside his own half, and D. Kirkpatrick played a subtle game.

Walker was the top scorer with four of his five goals from penalty hits and one from a great display of horsemanship. The other New Zealand goal-scorers were Barrett (2), Kirkpatrick (2), and G. Broughton.
