Devlin in contention

(N.Z. Press Assn—Copyright)

CLEVELAND (Ohio.)

B. Devlin, the former master plumber from Australia, strode into contention for the $150,000 rain-delayed Cleveland open golf tournament with a 66.

He needed only 29 strokes on the greens with a putter which a Cleveland putting company gives away free to good customers. With a three-round total of 208, Devlin is two strokes behind the joint leaders —two Americans, L. Wadkins and L. Hinson. Wadkins shot a four-under-par 67 to join the early leader, Hinson, who shot a 69. C. Sanudo carded a 67 and was alone on 207. Another Australian, D. Graham, posted a 68 for 209. Graham was using a putter that he obtained by trading a set of clubs he had got from Arnold Palmer. R. J. Charles (New Zealand), has scored 72, 73 and 71 for a total of 216.
