Apology likely
"Japan must apologise for atrocities committed during the Chinese-Japanese war, as a first step towards restoring normal relations with China,” the Japanese Foreign Minister (Mr Takeo Fukuda) agreed today in answer to Opposition members’ questions, during a Parliamentary committee meeting, suggesting that such an apology should be made. Mr Fukuda said that pre-conditions for governmental contacts between the two countries were now being considered.— Tokyo, Dec. 22.
