The United Nations General Assembly has approved the principle of an international convention to protect war correspondents covering declared or undeclared wars. The Secretary-General (U Thant) has submitted proposals for a preliminary draft of a special convention which includes the establishment of an international professional committee for the protection of journalists on dangerous missions, and the issuing of special safe-conduct cards for such journalists.
