Surf boat’s journey

More than $l5OO was raised by the North Beach Surf Club on Saturday when club members pushed their li-ton surf boat to Kaiapoi and rowed it back. The push began from North Beach at 8 a.m., the boat reaching Kaiapoi just before 11 a.m. It was then launched in the Kaiapoi River, rowed down the waimakariri River and across the bar at the river mouth, and back along the coast to North Beach. About 40 club members formed teams, which changed at intervals along the route. The money raised will be used to buy new equipment and improve club facilities.
